The time you spend to prepare for any task or project is an investment. It can save even more time when you execute the assignment. You should prepare by following these guidelines:
For any project, you will need materials and supplies. List the things you need, then check off as you gather them together. You should always make lists when you intend to spend time ordering supplies or merchandise. If you do purchases at a particular time each week, maintain an ongoing list. Add to it whenever you notice something is needed. Ask co-workers if they need anything and add them to your list. Then, when you do your weekly ordering, you will get everything at one time.
Before beginning a project, make sure you have the materials you need. Check your list if you may have made one out or do a checklist of things you need to complete the task. Gather these materials together before starting.
The most productive workers learn how to determine which tasks have priority and to do them first. They are not easily distracted by less important matters. Sometimes doing one task first will facilitate doing other tasks.
If directions, instructions, or manuals accompany a task, project, or piece of equipment, you should read them before beginning.
Proper preparation enables a worker to do a task correctly the first time, rather than having to fix mistakes later.
