Sufficiency

The misconduct must be serious enough to justify disciplinary action, i.e. the punishment must be directly corresponding with the offence. To determine the sufficiency or the adequacy of the disciplinary action, the individual circumstances of each case must be considered against the background of what is customary practice in the industry. In certain industries certain offences are considered more serious than in others: for instance, safety-related offences are considered more serious in the explosives industry than in an academic institution or a shop.
