Leaders do all the above, but they take communication one step further. For leaders, communication is the most powerful instrument in order to inspire others. Inspiring people involves the magic balance and integration of both WHAT is said (the topics of talk and the carefully structured content) and the principles of content (honesty) and HOW it is said (the level of confidence, passion, intelligence and the codes and channels employed).
Leadership communication is essential to influence team members to enhance their performance. But it is also key in inspiring peers, customers, suppliers, key role-players inside and outside of the organisation and even bosses to support and promote your goals. As such, leadership communication is not only a skill or even an art, but also a great responsibility.
The only true leaders are communicating leaders. Without effective two-way communication, you will not be able to lead your people towards world-class performance.
