Bourne (2000) defines assertive behaviour as follows: “…an attitude and a way of acting in any situation where you need to:

  • Express your feelings.
  • Ask for what you want.
  • Say no to something you don’t want."

Many people are confused by the concepts of assertive and aggressive behaviour.

This learning unit will help you to understand the differences and apply the knowledge gained in your own work and personal life.
