Some people believe that they are the masters of their own fate. Others see themselves as pawns of fate, believing that what happens to them are due to luck or chance.

The first group, those who believe that they control their destinies, have been called Internals, whereas the latter, which see their lives as being controlled by outside forces, have been called Externals.
A person’s perception of the source of his or her fate is termed locus of control. Locus of control is the degree to which people believe they are masters of their own fate. They can take charge of what happens to them. One may not always be able to control the events in your life, but you can certainly take charge of your reactions and feelings about those events.

Proactive people focus on areas where they can have influence, thereby increasing their effectiveness and impact.

Reactive people focus on the weaknesses of other people, the problems in the environment and circumstances over which they have no control. Their focus results in blaming and accusing attitudes, reactive language and feelings of victimisation.

The choice of acting from your circle of control or influence is yours.
