The Keirsey Type Indicator is probably the most insightful and useful instrument to quickly understand how and why people tend to behave the way they do and contribute in work situations. No amount of coaching, well-intended resolutions, and affirmation can really alter what individuals like, dislike, enjoy, test, want, and do not want. The Keirsey provides everyone with insights into their functions and attitudes.
The Keirsey is based on C.G. Jung’s theory of Psychological Types. He suggested that differences in people’s behaviour are caused by differences in the way they prefer to use their minds. The purpose of the indicator is to illustrate and explain every-day, normal differences in human interactions and behaviours.
All people, at some point in time, use all the dimensions identified by the Keirsey. The profile identified for everyone, however, indicates the function or approach preferred and thus used most often. Through exercising the different preferences, each person develops a unique way of dealing with life, interacting with people and reaching conclusions. Such variations in individual preferences, how they are used and developed result in fundamental differences and predictable behaviour patterns in human behaviour.
There are no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ types. All people offer valuable gifts to the world. Knowing your own preferences can, however, contribute to a better understanding of how people differ. It can also contribute to improved interpersonal relationships in a work environment.
It is important that you complete the questionnaire, before we proceed with a detailed discussion on preferences and how they influence our lives.
