Each leader regards following the correct leadership style towards his lower-level employees as being important.
The way you communicate with your workers influences their response to you. Understanding how you communicate with your workers can help you manage your communication in a more effective manner. This can help you adjust and change your current style for even greater effectiveness, which can make a difference in both gaining a commitment and developing a long-term relationship.
The LAID inventory is designed for two purposes. Firstly, it will raise your awareness of how you presently come across. Secondly, it will show how to improve your communication methods for even greater productivity.
It consists of ten of the most common situations that workers raise in the work situation. Each of the situations have six alternative ways in which you might handle it. Think about how you usually act in such situations. The situations may not be exactly those that you find from day-to-day. However, imagine yourself in each of the situations and show what you would probably do.
You are to distribute ten points among the six alternatives, which most accurately show what is most typical of you; from the time that worker begins to talk. Give more points to alternatives you would be more likely to make use of and fewer or no points to those alternatives you would be less likely to make. Your points for any one alternative may range from zero to ten, but the total of all the alternatives must add up to exactly ten.
In the following example, the person distributed ten points among the six alternatives, which most accurately described what that person would do in this situation.
Example: If lost in a forest with no help in sight, I would:
2 |
Light a fire and signal for help |
Climb a tree and get my bearings |
|
Walk in a straight, northerly direction |
|
6 |
Remain stationary and wait for help |
2 |
Search for food and water |
Find a river and follow it downstream |
Do not try to come up with the “right answer” if this may not be typical of you. It will result in an inaccurate assessment of your style.
Once again, distribute ten points among the alternatives that most accurately indicate how likely you are to deal with the situation.
