The purpose of this Outcome is to enable you to apply safety and standard operating procedures during loading and off-loading in terms of SANS 10231.

This Specific Outcome will enable you to:

  1. Extract and utilise information from relevant sources to ensure the safe handling of classified goods and substances.
  2. Adhere to the duties of the driver before proceeding on the route, in terms of SANS 10231, at all times.
  3. Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (relating to the class of substance/goods and related equipment) in order to prepare the vehicle for loading and off-loading.
  4. Ensure Personal Protective equipment, suitable to the class of substance, is worn during loading and off-loading.
  5. Ensure safety equipment and procedures suitable to the class of substance, are used during loading and off-loading.
  6. List the nine hazard classes and explain the properties of the class of substance transported.
  7. Explain the concept of compatibility as it relates to dangerous goods.
