What is included in the biological self?

  • Lifestyle factors

Key point: Physical wellbeing: The optimal functioning of the body’s physiological systems (cardio-vascular, endocrine, reproductive, immune). Distress creates wear and tear on the body. More than 80% of diseases such as high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer are associated with stress. That does not mean that stress causes these illnesses. It is generally acknowledged that stress weakens the immune system, which in turn makes people more vulnerable to disease.
