How to Deal with Destructive Feelings

Experiencing negative or destructive feelings such as anxiety, depression or anger can be very dangerous for your health. Withholding or suppressing negative or destructive emotions can lead to the following:

  • Low self-esteem
  • Panic attacks
  • Increase in blood pressure
  • Increase in the probability of strokes or heart disease
  • Inability to concentrate and have a clear focus

How Do You Deal with Destructive Emotions?

The following can be used as guidelines:

  • Identify the emotion(s)
  • Talk it out with a trusted friend or counsellor
  • Write it out
  • Go for a walk
  • Have a vigorous physical workout
  • Meditate
  • Practice mental imagery
