Value your own positive attitude to the point where you refuse to let others tarnish it. Keep reminding yourself that your attitude is the most priceless possession, and it belongs to you – not your organisation or your family.

Be pleasant and communicate with negative colleagues. Encourage them to be more positive by being a good role model – but avoid spending too much off-time with them.

Get suggestions from your supervisor on the kind of role he or she wants you to play so that you help to keep departmental morale high. Ask if you are setting a good example. Is it helping? What else can you do? It is good for the supervisor to contribute to team productivity.

To stay positive when those around you are negative is a difficult challenge, but letting others pull you into their negative way of thinking is a price too high to pay. Those who find the challenge too demanding often move to a new environment and start all over again.
