Cornerstone 3: Fuelled with Energy

Successful leaders are committed (some writers refer to this as “being passionately committed”) to their visions and goals. They radiate energy, are determined to realise their visions and are therefore able to inspire other people with this shared vision. They convey the vision in a compelling way and they model their own commitment to the vision through their enthusiasm and involvement. In this manner, they generate the energies and powers of their followers.

Energetic leadership is connecting your energy force to your purpose and everything in your life, including personal and professional leadership. The power of energetic leadership can shape and shift lives into new realms of energy, possibility and effectiveness. Recent discoveries have found that not only can an energetic disposition positively influence one’s physical body and emotional state, but these energies can also be used to create an environment that has the potential for the most opportunity. Energetic leadership is the sum of the energy we put out (since we function in this world as human magnets drawing to ourselves). The sum-total account for how we live our lives.

In today’s high-intensity work environment, managing your energies and stress levels is a challenge that effective leaders must address. Many systems within us can suffer from an overload of stress. The overload is caused by treating ourselves as one bulk commodity instead of recognising that we run on different levels of energy and multiple systems.

Sources of Energy

Energized leaders are physically energized, emotionally connected, mentally focused and spiritually aligned. Full engagement requires drawing on each of these four sources of energy. All of them are necessary, none is enough by itself and each influences the others.
