Steps in Developing a Health and Safety Plan

An effective occupational safety and health plan will include the following four main elements: management commitment and employee involvement, worksite analysis, hazard prevention and control, and safety and health training.

OSHA recommends that each written plan includes the following basic elements:

  • Policy or goals statement
  • List of responsible persons
  • Hazard identification
  • Hazard controls and safe practices
  • Emergency and accident response
  • Employee training and communication
  • Record keeping
