Guidelines on Receiving Feedback

Remember these guidelines when receiving feedback:

  • We learn mostly from feedback if we listen carefully not only to the words but rather to the feelings expressed.
  • Try not to defend your behaviour or look for poor excuses.
  • Distinguish whether the feedback is valid, unjustified or vague and act accordingly.
  • Always think of feedback as being positive as it keeps you informed.
  • A person who receives negative feedback should remember that people react differently to different behaviour. Most feedback is subjective and based on personal likes and dislikes, own background and prejudices and can thus not always be accepted as the norm.
