Assertiveness Implies

View

  • Honesty towards yourself and others.
  • Straightforwardness in saying what you require or how you feel but not at the expense of others.
  • Having self-confidence and being positive while still respecting the opinions of others.
  • Rational and mature behaviour.
  • The ability to negotiate and achieve a feasible compromise.
  • Having respect for yourself and others.

Assertive behaviour is interactional because it implies an interaction between two or more persons involving:

  • Requests (asking for those things that you want).
  • Refusals (refusing what you do not want).
  • Expressions of feelings (communicating positive and negative messages to others).
  • No matter how self-assured you are, most of us wonder if we perhaps couldn’t be just a bit more assertive in certain situations.
