We already know from the definition of statistics that our main aim is to make inferences about a population-based upon sample information. However, we also need to assess how good these inferences are. The terms chance and probability are used in assessing the accuracy of inference. We, therefore, have to look at some principles of probability to understand how to assess the accuracy of inference.
