The Source

The sender of the message has the obligation to make the message he wants to convey, clear and complete. He needs to check for understanding and ensure effective translation of his message. The sender should use appropriate words, tone of voice, pitch, and volume.

The Channel

This refers to the medium of communication used.

Options include:

  • Written communication
  • Verbal communication
  • Visual communication

The Receiver

The receiver translates the message that the sender or source has sent.

Consider the tone of voice, the words used, the pitch, and rate of speech to determine what the real message was that the source has sent.
