The pricing of promotional merchandise is marked according to organisational rules and policy. The promotional price lists must be communicated to the concerned department according to organisational policy. The information concerning pricing must be precisely adhered to because any misinformation can lead to customer confusion and loss of profit. Promotional goods are usually marked down compared to regular prices of the goods.

It is important that all commodities are priced and that the prices are stuck or attached to them. The marking of prices on commodities ensures customer satisfaction and entails good customer service. Customers are always frustrated if goods have no prices on them. Prices are sometimes marked down during promotions, but they must be immediately reversed back to their original prices when the promotion is over.

It is important that prices are accurate and that customers are not told of different prices from that of the commodity when they reach the counter. Prices of commodities must always be clearly marked.

When bar codes are used to mark prices, it is important to ensure that the barcode price read at the point of sale is exactly the same as the one on the shelves or on the item itself.

Methods of Marking

Most items are marked in the same manner and using the same equipment as those used on regular items. There are many ways of marking merchandise.
